Life IS GREAT... ENJOY THE JOURNEY

I have been an artist for many years. I use the name ZMAKEY on every one of my paintings.  As a boy, my grandmother called me ZMAKEY (which is Greek for young Jimmy).  Every time I saw her she would say BRAVO ZMAKEY, so the name has great sentimental meaning to me.

Many years ago, we had great neighbors who lived next to my grandmother, and the mother of that family had a brother who lived in Greenwich Village in New York City, and his name was Nick Skarils.  He was an abstract painter and sculptor and many of his pieces were in the neighbor's house.  When he would come home to stay with them, I would visit and question the meaning of his art that made no sense to me.  The way that he described it was that he painted and sculpted his feelings, sometimes made a statement and always expressed his emotions and it all made perfect sense to him and somehow, I understood what he meant.

Years later, I learned my craft as an abstract artist (with him in mind) from a college course taught by a Beatnic, (pre Hippy) professor.  Over the years I have had several careers, owned multiple businesses and now I'm retired, but through it all, I have always been an artist with a creative mind that won't stop.

This site has over 140 paintings and digital art, displayed on the PRINT page.  They are a compilation of over 50 years of artwork and creative thoughts streaming through my brain every day.   I wanted to build this site so that my grandchildren and their children would know what my inspiration was for every painting I have ever done.

I'm always coming out with colorful new paintings.  Most of my art is contemporary, abstract, and non-objective. I try to combine four things in my art: Color, Balance, Structure and Motion, I hope you enjoy it.
